Tree Top Hospital is thrilled to announce the arrival of Dr. Ivan Neretljak, a leading expert in transplant urology and dialysis access procedures.

Dr. Neretljak will be available for consultations from November 25th to November 28th, 2024. Dr. Neretljak will be offering specialized services, including peritoneal dialysis catheter insertion and hemodialysis fistula operations (fistula creation and fistula repair surgeries), further strengthening Tree Top Hospital’s commitment to providing comprehensive and advanced dialysis and urological care.

Dr. Ivan Neretljak's arrival marks a significant milestone for Tree Top Hospital and the Maldives, allowing our institution to offer a home-based kidney replacement therapy in the form of peritoneal dialysis. Currently, kidney failure patients in Maldives have only one option for dialysis (hemodialysis) which is a facility-based treatment.

Peritoneal dialysis is a home-based dialysis treatment, that provides greater convenience and comfort for individuals who will be able to perform dialysis at home. This will be of particular interest to the patients and families residing in islands, to younger patients who would like to remain independent from frequent visit to hospitals and for patients who had lost access for hemodialysis. In addition to this, fistula creation surgery and fistula repair surgeries will help patients who need access for hemodialysis.

To further support patients who would be interested to find out more about peritoneal dialysis, Tree Top Hospital will be hosting free counseling sessions led by Consultant Nephrologists Dr. Mladen Knotek and Dr. Jaya Nath.

The counseling would be of interest to patients who already are on dialysis and to those with kidney failure not yet on dialysis and who are exploring possible options. Specific dates for these sessions will be agreed with the patients who will express interest to obtain additional information.
