Tree Top Hospital successfully performed a surgery on three ligaments of the knee via arthroscopy. This surgery was completed under the same anesthesia on a 31-year-old female guest. The guest sustained her injuries from a motorcycle accident which resulted in her whole knee being dislocated, and where all of the ligaments of her knee joint being torn.

The surgery is remarkable as this is possibly the first case that all ligament reconstruction and Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) reconstruction have been done in Maldives.

Knee dislocation is a rare limb-threatening injury with multiple ligament injuries and multi-directional instability. A dislocated knee occurs when the round-shaped bone covering the knee (patella) moves or slides out of place.

During the guest’s surgery, all her ligaments were reconstructed. Ligaments were taken from both of her legs to reconstruct the damaged ones all in one sitting.

According to Dr Faisal “ligament reconstruction of the knee joint is a challenging and meticulous work. Her surgery went smoothly and there were no complications”

The surgery was performed by Dr Hussain Faisal, Consultant Orthopaedic, Dr Kanniraj Marimuthu, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon from Tree Top Hospital skilled Orthopeadics department. They were joined by Dr Ahmad Mansour, Consultant Anesthesiologist and Dr Lenka Cervenova, Consultant Anesthesiologist and a skilled team of nurses.
