Tree Top Hospital’s General Surgery department has successfully performed an Open Cholecystectomy surgery on its most elderly patient to date; a 104-year-old female. Open Cholecystectomy is the surgical removal of the gallbladder. The operation is done to remove the gallbladder due to gallstones causing pain or infection.
The surgical team was led by Dr. Abdulla Ubaid, General Surgeon and assisted by experienced medical officers, Anesthetists and a skilled team of Operations Theatre Nurses. ‘We are happy to report that the procedure went well’, stated Dr. Ubaid. ‘This surgery will relieve the pain and treat infection. It is an operation that improves quality of life’. He further stated that considering the age of the patient, the team prepared extensively through assessments and risk reduction strategies weeks ahead of the procedure.
