Tree Top Hospital holds the prestige of the first successful most advanced Total Knee Replacement surgery in the Maldives for a 62-year-old male patient, Mr. Ahmed. Mr. Ahmed who had previously undergone knee replacement surgery twice before on the same knee, was in an unfortunate accident in which he sustained major injuries including fracturing just above the knee component fixed over the lower end of his thigh bone (femur). Additionally, the Mr. Ahmed also fractured both sides of the lower end of the femur, and avulsion of both collateral ligaments. This is considered a very serious injury that could have caused Mr. Ahmed bedridden without being able to move freely. Mr. Ahmed presented to Tree Top Hospital after six months of injury with malunion fracture and complete destruction of side ligaments which included Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL) and Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL). Hence, the lower end of thigh bone causing pain was resected or cut out and ligaments and deficient bone were restructured with special limb saving mega prosthesis.
