National team and Club Valencia’s top striker Mr. Ali Fasir or more commonly known as Sentey underwent a successful Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction surgery at Tree Top Hospital.

Mr. Ali Fasir underwent ACL reconstruction at Tree Top Hospital under the expertise of orthopedic consultant Dr. Hussain Faisal.

Dr. Hussain Faisal has over 20 years of clinical experience in Orthopaedics. He completed his MBBS at Baqai Medical University, Pakistan, and MS in Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Nepal. Dr. Faisal is experienced and skilled in a wide range of Orthopaedic procedures such as Paediatric Orthopaedics, Arthroscopic Surgery, and Ligament Reconstructions.

Dr. Faisal shares that the ACL is a commonly injured ligament inside the knee joint following twisting of the knee joint. Usually, the player will fall down, with an out-of-control and twisting movement of the knee joint. There will be a popping sound, with intense pain and swelling of the knee joint lasting for 1 - 2 weeks. If ACL injury is not treated there will be pain and instability of the knee joint

“Ali Fasir also had a similar type of injury. His ACL was partially torn with some intact fibers of the ligament. To support the weakened ligament, a tendon graft was used to reinforce the knee joint. This treatment is required for him to be a professional football player. He will have to go through rehabilitation protocols before resuming play. I wish him a fast recovery and expect him to resume his previous level of activity on the field of the national football team” shared Dr. Faisal.

According to Mr. Ali Fasir,  he discovered the injury following an MRI he had done from TTH. Following the recommendation of an acquaintance, he consulted Dr. Faisal. Initially, when he found out he required surgery he did contemplate going abroad, but having the accessibility to do it in the Maldives was a better choice for him and his family.
